Terms of Service
Last updated: 2026-05-28
1. Acceptance of Terms
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) form a legally binding agreement between you and Qianye (hubei Province) Education Technology Co., Ltd (“ilib”, “we”, “us”) governing your access to and use of the ilib application and related services (the “Service”). By installing, accessing, or using the Service, you accept these Terms.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum legal age in your jurisdiction) to create an account. If you are using the Service on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization.
3. Account
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us immediately at admin@readest.com.cn if you suspect unauthorized access.
4. License to Use the Software
The ilib application is open-source software licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License version 3.0 (AGPL-3.0). You may use, modify, and redistribute the source code subject to the terms of that license. The source is available at github.com/ouyouda-collab/readest. Subject to your compliance with these Terms, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the compiled binaries we distribute through the iOS App Store, Google Play, and our website.
5. Subscription Plans
We offer optional paid subscription plans (“Plus”, “Pro”) and one-time storage upgrades. Pricing, billing period, and features are presented at the point of purchase. By subscribing you authorize us (or Apple/Google when purchased through their stores) to charge the applicable fees to your payment method on a recurring basis until you cancel.
Auto-renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date. You can manage and cancel subscriptions in your platform’s account settings (Apple ID settings, Google Play account, or your account page on web.ilib.ai).
Refunds. For purchases made through the iOS App Store, refund requests are handled by Apple in accordance with Apple’s policies. For purchases through Google Play, refunds are handled by Google. For web purchases via Stripe, you may contact admin@readest.com.cn within fourteen (14) days of purchase to request a refund; we honor refund requests at our discretion in accordance with applicable consumer-protection law.
6. In-App Purchases
The Service includes optional in-app purchases (consumable storage upgrades and auto-renewable subscriptions). All purchases on the iOS App Store and Google Play are governed by the terms of the respective store. By purchasing, you agree to those platform terms in addition to these Terms.
7. Apple App Store Additional Terms
For users who download the App from the Apple App Store:
- These Terms are between you and ilib only; Apple is not a party to these Terms and is not responsible for the App or its content.
- The license granted is limited to a non-transferable license to use the App on any Apple-branded products that you own or control, as permitted by the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions.
- ilib is solely responsible for any product warranties, whether express or implied by law. In the event of any failure of the App to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any). To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation.
- ilib is responsible for any claims that the App or your use of it (a) infringes a third party’s intellectual-property rights or (b) violates any law or regulation. Apple is not responsible for the investigation, defense, or resolution of any such claim.
- Apple and Apple’s subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and have the right to enforce them against you.
8. Google Play Additional Terms
For users who download the App from Google Play, your use is also subject to the Google Play Terms of Service. Refunds for purchases made through Google Play are handled by Google.
9. User Content
The Service allows you to import, store, and synchronize ebooks, annotations, highlights, notes, and other content (“User Content”). You retain all rights to your User Content. You are solely responsible for the User Content you upload and for ensuring you have the right to do so (for example, by owning the ebook or by having a license to read it).
We do not claim ownership of your User Content. We process it only as necessary to provide the Service. We do not access, read, or share your books or annotations except where strictly required to provide a feature you requested (e.g., the cloud sync feature you opted into).
10. Acceptable Use
You agree not to use the Service to:
- Infringe any copyright, trademark, or other intellectual-property right;
- Distribute pirated or unlicensed content;
- Upload content that is illegal, harmful, harassing, or violates the rights of others;
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to our systems or other users’ data;
- Interfere with the integrity, security, or performance of the Service;
- Reverse-engineer or attempt to extract source code beyond what AGPL-3.0 permits;
- Resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit the Service without our written consent;
- Violate any applicable law or regulation.
11. Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time and delete your account from the account settings or by contacting us. We may suspend or terminate your access if you materially breach these Terms, after notice where reasonably practicable.
12. Disclaimers
The Service is provided on an “AS IS” and “AS AVAILABLE” basis, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and uninterrupted operation. We do not warrant that the Service will be error-free or that any defects will be corrected.
13. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, ilib shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, whether incurred directly or indirectly, or any loss of data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses, resulting from (a) your use or inability to use the Service; (b) any unauthorized access to or alteration of your transmissions or content; or (c) any other matter relating to the Service.
Our aggregate liability for any claim arising out of or related to these Terms or the Service shall not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim, or (b) USD 100.
14. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless ilib, its officers, employees, and agents from any claim, liability, damage, or expense (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising out of your use of the Service, your User Content, or your breach of these Terms.
15. Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the People’s Republic of China, without regard to its conflict-of-laws provisions. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service shall be submitted to the People’s Court of competent jurisdiction in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China.
Notwithstanding the above, where you are a consumer resident in a jurisdiction that guarantees you the right to bring proceedings in your local courts, this clause does not deprive you of that right.
16. Changes to These Terms
We may modify these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, for material changes, notify you in the App or by email. Your continued use of the Service after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
17. Privacy
Our collection and use of personal information is described in our Privacy Policy.
